- Highlights
Belize is such an amazing country. They are a former British colony, so English is their primary language. But they drive on the RIGHT side of the road. And take USD. It also has really good air service to & from the US and Canada. Oh, we forgot to mention how beautiful this country is!
One of the challenges travelers to Belize face is lack of information and knowledge online. It isn’t Cancun or Hawai’i – so you have probably already spent a few evenings scouring the web (and hopefully FINALLY found us). Don’t let our name fool you – Alaskans travel almost better than anyone else on a per capita basis, I mean, like the movies say – 30 days of darkness and temperatures that freeze your nose airs in the winter means Alaskans like to get away.
AYT has been traveling to Belize for almost 30 years and with the changes in Covid-19, we realized that there is an opportunity to present Belize in an easy fashion.
With that, we present you Belize For Beginners.
Our package covers the 2 most popular reasons to visit Belize – the water and the history. You’ll spend a few days on Caye Caulker, a quaint island just off the coast, with a barrier reef just off shore. Then we’ll send you inland to San Ignacio, where you’ll be able to relax by an amazing infiniti pool & star gaze, go exploring in the rainforest & caves, eat some amazing food, and learn about the Mayans & their historical cities.
Our package first starts with planning your trip here. We have NOT included a general airfare for these packages as there are SO many options and pricing matrix is not one we can reliably use. So the package we offer starts as a LAND ONLY package, with free air booking assistance (if needed). Our travel designers have over 50 years experience in selling travel, allow us to use our mastery in finding you the BEST deal and options (including frequent flyer miles!). We have found combining Alaska & American Airlines flights as the best & easiest way to reach Belize, and Alaska MileagePlan members can earn miles on their American flights.
The package starts with a 10 minute flight on Tropic Air from Belize City to Caye Caulker. 5 days & 4 nights hotel at the Island Magic Beach Resort on quaint Caye Caulker. This waterfront resort is a short walking distance to all of Caye Caulker’s attractions – and tours depart from the dock just in front of the hotel. The food is affordable & tasty, a wide variety of drinks at the bar, and a great beachfront patio with swinging tables/chairs to enjoy your libations.
We don’t include tours yet with our package – AYT is working on automating this with many of our partners, so stay tuned.
While in Caye Caulker, you’ll enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this beach destination. There are no paved roads and very few cars, so most people use golf carts & bikes to get around. You’ll find the food options limitless, but do NOT think the BBQ setups along the park near the Split aren’t worthy – you’ll find the 3 or 4 ‘restaurant’ offerings to be amazing in their food and also cheap. Caye Caulker offers tremendous water activities – kayaking, snorkeling, diving, boating, wave runners, and paddle boards.
Caye Caulker is NOT a party town. While backpackers flock here, that’s mostly because the hostels & cheap hotels haven’t been raised yet for multi-million condotels. The night life tends to be on the quiet side, unless there’s a sports game going on the TV. If you are wanting to party or a more active vacation, we might recommend our Belize for Beginners Package to San Pedro.
After Caye Caulker, you’ll fly to Belize City and meet up with our shuttle driver who will take you to San Ignacio, near the border with Guatemala. Along the way, we’ll have a 90 minute stop at the Belize Zoo where you’ll have a chance to pet a jaguar, feed a toucan & tapir, see a variety of monkeys, jaguars, puma, parrots, and others. (The Belize Zoo is a RESCUE & education facility).
While in the western part of Belize, you can finally feel like Indiana Jones, go cave exploring/tubing or check out one of the many Mayan ruins that dot the landscape. You’ll also find a large amount of handcrafts & goods for sale using the Belizean woods (including mohagany). The food is just as good as on Caye Caulker, but with a more Spanish twist.
3 days/2 nights in San Ignacio at the beautiful Cassia Hill Resort, where each room is a private casa with all the comforts of home – television, air conditioning, wifi, private bathroom – and a hammock on your porch! The resort also has a full service restaurant/bar, infinity pool, and tours.
Lastly, we then shuttle you back to the Belize City International Airport for your trip home.
Here are some of the optional tours you can take in Belize:
- Diving the barrier reef, Great Blue Hole, Turneff Atoll, and others
- Snorkeling
- Feed sting rays, nurse sharks, and tarpon
- Rent a boat/wave runner
- Sandbar/Reef day to Miami Beach (AYT Exclusive online tour!)
- One day water adventure to Goffs Caye

Upgrades available for hotels on Caye Caulker.
Pricing is based off either Island Magic Beach Resort, Iguana Reef, or Weeizes. All hotel/resorts have only 20 rooms and are quite popular, so we will do our best to get you the accommodations & the budget you want.
Package pricing is NOT dynamic and based on availability. Our booking engine provides an estimation of your package due to the customization available, final price will be determined once a travel designer has had their first consultation with you & verified availabilities & pricing. We require a deposit of $200 + taxes and offer affordable payment plans.

- The legal stuff...
The booking engine, located top RIGHT, is where you will start. The system will provide you an ESTIMATED cost of the package based on your customizations and input. The rates are based on availability & subject to change. Should the final price not be acceptable, we do allow you a full refund, no questions, of the deposit!
AYT will secure your hotel first and car rental if requested. Transfers will be confirmed as soon as we can.
Our package is based on not more than 4 travelers sharing a room (including children). The initial process asks you to select the customer type, and in the drop down, select the TOTAL number of occupants in the room. The next step of the process will ask to verify the number, again, and if you have any children traveling with you, AND staying in the same room, you can select the adjusted rate. Infants are free, however some of our tours may not be infant-friendly. If you wish to purchase multiple rooms, please add additional travelers or MORE travelers. Some properties in Belize offer upgrades to multiple-room suites, we can adjust pricing based on this request.
Airfare is NOT built in to this package, our travel designers are more than helpful to assist with finding you the BEST deal to Belize, including using frequent flyer points.
Any upgrades to packages components will require a reprice of the package. Substitutions are allowed.
Final price is dependent on variables, such as airfare availability, hotel availability, and government taxes & fees.
We HIGHLY encourage you to purchase travel insurance – either individually for this trip or an annual plan. We can provide you a quote by clicking on the check-box in the booking engine.
A deposit of $200 USD per guest, plus taxes, is due at time of booking. Once we confirm all of your travel options & any enhancements, we will require a minimum payment of $400 USD.
If we are unable to confirm your vacation package as booked, we will offer alternative dates/accommodations or refund your deposit in full to the card charged.
Upon confirmation of your vacation, guests have the option to pay in full or select a payment plan.
Belize for Beginners Payment plans are as follows:
- $100 USD/mo per package (no finance charge)
- $250 USD per package every quarter
- Final payment is due 45 days prior to travel

In the event of a tour or excursion being cancelled for a reason outside of normal control, we will either rebook you or refund the amount paid once AYT has received the refund from the tour operator.
We highly suggest you purchase travel insurance, either for this trip or an Annual Travel Plan. Most insurance plans will reimburse most out-of-pocket expenses due to changes & cancellations that are outside of your control.

Belize presently requires the use of masks in all INDOOR public spaces, with a few exceptions.
AYT works with each of our vendors on ensuring they have proper safety protocols in place. This may include limiting capacity, social distancing on buses, boats, and indoor venues.
Belize presently requires proof of vaccination to enter the country, if not – you may take a test to enter: PCR test taken at least 96 hours prior to departure, or an antigen test 48 hours before. In order to exit Belize and enter the US, a test is also required within 24 hours of departure. This test is an additional $75USD and will be done at your hotel. We have had success with the Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Antigen test, for both ENTERING & LEAVING Belize. This is the test that has to be purchased thru emed.com and brought with you to Belize. This will require you have a good wifi signal & camera.
This may include limits on some excursions, tours, and destinations that require testing and/or vaccination status and masks. As your travel agent, we will pass along this information to you and it is your responsibility to ensure compliance. Please do NOT send us copies of your tests results or vaccination card!
We do ask that you travel safely & smartly.
