For most accurate pricing, please contact us using the icons to the left or give us a call at 907-531-9140 to book your Alaskan adventure with us.

The booking link to the top RIGHT will take you into our booking system, where you can select the date of our current availability for the railtour – our system will then collect a refundable $200 USD per person deposit.  We will then confirm space with all of our vendors and contact you with the full itinerary and updated price.   The deposit is fully refundable if we are not able to accomodate you.

For overnight & same day travel excursions, we will lock in any/all air or sea travel first, and secure hotel space if overnight was requested. Most tours & excursions will be confirmed at a later date, but not less than 20 days prior to departure.

ATD’s Travel Designers will monitor your flight schedules before and during your trip.  We will work proactively when there are schedule changes or issues – including weather or other issues. We’ll work with you and our vendors to ensure you have a fantastic vacation.

Any upgrades to packages components will require a reprice of the package.  Substitutions are allowed.

Final price is dependent on variables, such as airfare & hotel availability, and government taxes & fees.  Once the travel designer & you have confirmed the options, ATD will require an additional payment.

We HIGHLY encourage you to purchase travel insurance – either individually for this trip or an annual plan.

All Railtours require a $200 refundable deposit for us to begin the booking process, and validate the actual package price (due to non-contracted items like air availability).  Upon confirmation of tour items, an Alaska Travel Desk designer will reach out to you with the proposed Railtour itinerary and the full price, at which full payment will be due to confirm all space.

While our system is NOT directly connected to Princess, if we are not able to secure your space, we will attempt to book you on the similar Alaska Railroad & offer alternative accommodations in Denali – which may result in a price difference (up or down).  If this is not acceptable to you, we will refund you in full – no penalty.

ATD accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.

All funds collected are paid directly to Princess, and no funds remain held by ATD or in escrow.

Changes to your itinerary are subject to availability.  ATD will do its best to honor all change requests.

WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE ALL RAIL-TOUR GUESTS TO PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE, INCLUDING OUR LOCAL ALASKANS!

Date changes may require a reprice or adjustment of the package total.

Name changes & fixes are subject to Princess Lodges. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you have provided accurate and legal names of all travelers.  Please verify the names on all receipts & itinerary. We are NOT responsible for any errors made by online bookings.

A full refund, less a $25 admin fee per guest, will be made for cancellations received at least 46 days prior to the date on which you are to commence travel.

Passengers, who cancel after that date for any reason, including medical or family reasons, are subject to the following cancellation fees:

 – 45-31 days before commencing travel – 50% of gross fare less $25 admin fee per guest.
 – 30 days or less before commencing travel – 100% of gross fare  (non-refundable)

Princess Lodges reserves the right to cancel all or part of a tour in its reasonable discretion including in response to insufficient sales. If Princess Lodges cancels the entire tour, you will receive a full refund of amounts paid to Princess Lodges. If Princess Lodges cancels a portion of the tour due to weather or other reasons beyond the control of Princess Lodges, or if you decide for any reason whatsoever to not participate in all or part of the tour, Princess Lodges will not be required to make any refunds. For other partial cancellations by Princess Lodges, you will receive a refund for the value of the cancelled portion, with value to be determined by Princess Lodges in a fair and equitable manner. If, due to weather or other unforeseen reasons, flights are adversely impacted or you are required to spend an additional night in a location, hotel and meal costs and other incidental expenses are your responsibility.

FAQs

How do I book my Denali Trip?
Online ? Over the Phone? Email?
You can click on the "BOOK NOW" button on the top right, which will open up our booking system - you can then select the tour you want, either pre-cruise or post-cruise. The Railtour is a 4 Day tour with 3 days - 2 nights in Denali package or a 5 Day tour with 3 days - 2 nights in Denali & 1 night in Talkeetna package. An express Denali trip with overnight is also available. Please note our online booking system has a surcharge; you can avoid this by contacting us directly to book.
Exactly what ARE my options?
Make it easy!
We have 3 types of Denali offerings:

-> a 3 day, 2 night trip to Denali from Anchorage with 1 night pre-trip hotel in Anchorage (4 Day Tour)

-> a 4 day, 2 night trip to Denali & 1 night in Talkeetna/Trapper Creek from Anchorage with 1 night pre-trip hotel in Anchorage (5 Day Tour) -> Each offering includes 1st night hotel in Anchorage

And depending on your CRUISE in Southeast Alaska, airfare between Anchorage and Southeast.
What date do I select in the Booking Engine?
The dates we show in the calendar above or in our booking system is the day you arrive in Anchorage to start your tour. If your cruise DISEMBARKS in Juneau on May 22nd, you will select May 22nd in the booking system. If your cruise STARTS in Juneau on May 22nd, you will need to pick a date at least 5 days in advance of May 22nd (on the last day of the tour, we can fly you to Juneau or Sitka that evening to join the cruise). Hotel in Juneau or Sitka is not included in our rates presented.
Are these trips offered other days of the week?
Availability is limited, you can contact us using the EMAIL button on the left or give us a call and we are happy to check other dates for you. The Denali season typically starts May 15 and ends on September 16th of each year.
Do we have to follow the exact dates of the package or do we have flexibility?
ABSOLUTELY!
No. We have preselected the best dates before and after the cruises end or begin in Juneau, taking into account flights and hotel needs. Some of our packages do require additional nights in Anchorage, however we are happy to customize that should you want to stay in Juneau or Sitka, for example.
What is included in these packages?
The trip offering includes roundtrip DOME CAR rail between Anchorage & Denali, luggage transfers, at least 2 nights upscale lodging in Denali or Talkeetna, 1 night moderate tourist class hotel in Anchorage, a dinner show in Denali, and if needed, we can build in airfare to/from Juneau and Sitka for Southeast cruisers.

Pre-Cruise tours require you to arrive in Anchorage a day before the train; and you will fly to Juneau or Sitka on the last day of the tour; we prefer to get you into Juneau/Sitka a day before your cruise starts in case of any possible delays or hiccups (thankfully, SHOULD there be a hiccup, there is a morning flight to Juneau & Sitka that will still allow you to get to the ship in time - but we do not recommend this as a normal part of your journey!).

Post-Cruise tours will begin the day you disembark, with a late afternoon flight to Anchorage, and the rail journey starting the next day (unless otherwise noted).
But what if I've already booked my flights for my cruise?
No worries, we can help!
That's OK! We can help you - we have friendly relations with both Alaska & Delta Air Lines and will get a price quote to move your flights to fit the package. Example: a precruise Denali Tour means we need to get you to ANCHORAGE to start the tour, and both Alaska & Delta have a large number of flights to/from there. If you book this as a POST cruise tour, we'll help move your flights from Juneau/Sitka to depart from Anchorage.
Do we have to be on a cruise to book this package?
No, the dates in our system are designed to mirror the luxury & small boat "turn" dates in Juneau and Sitka. But the packages on this page include the required airfare to or from Anchorage for the rail portion.
What is the deposit requirement?
We ask for a $200 per person deposit - we will then work on booking the package for you and notify you of any price changes (unlikely, but possible) or any upgrade options available to you. Sadly we utilize multiple vendors to build this package and sometimes rates do fluctuate.

This deposit is refundable if we are not able to get confirmed space on the rail portion of the trip, or secure the price you were quoted. We will not charge you in full until we have worked with you on airfare to/from Anchorage if you have already booked your flights to/from Juneau and/or Sitka.
When is full payment due?
We require full payment once we have all the tour options booked. This is normally within 24 hours of your booking request. One of our travel designers will call you and go over everything before we charge your card.

Charges are done in USD. We accept American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.
Why can the rate change?
The package rates provided are based on current pricing and can vary depending on the airfare/flights selected to/from Southeast Alaska and hotel availability in Anchorage.

The rate can also fluctuate based on any additional guests in the room (eg children vs adults) and any upgrades you desire.
What if we want to have 3 or 4 occupants per room?
Contact us!
The booking system is a bit complicated, and a 3rd or 4th person is possible but requires we get updated rates from the lodging, rail, and air partners.

There might be slightly reduced rates for children under 12, for example.
When will we know what lodges/hotels we are assigned?
Our Rail Program is pretty consistent in offering the Denali Princess Lodge & McKinley Chalet Lodge in Denali's "Glitter Gulch" - located just a mile from the main entrance to Denali National Park. We will know the exact lodge up to 14 days prior to departure. Talkeetna stays are at the McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. Anchorage stays are at the Westmark or Aspen Suites hotel. We do offer upgrades to the Aloft & Courtyard in Anchorage.
What lodges do you use?
Our main hotels in Anchorage are: - Aspen Suites Hotel (new) - Voyager Inn - Aloft (available as an upgrade) - Courtyard by Marriott (available as an upgrade) Denali: - Denali Bluffs - Denali Grande - Denali Princess Lodge - McKinley Chalet Resort Talkeetna/Trapper Creek: - McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge
Can we request bedding or room types?
Yes - we can request 1 king or 2 queen/double beds; the only price change will be in Anchorage where we book "run of house" rooms. We will always request your preferred bedding layout and advise of any variations. In Denali, the room assignments are done by the lodges and you will be provided room keys on the train, which means you don't have to stand in line to check-in once in Denali. Most of our guests are provided with standard rooms, however some have received upgrades. We are trying our best to get pricing on upgrades rooms in Denali and will advise our guests if/when this is possible.

In Anchorage, we offer the Aloft, Aspen Suites (NEW), and Courtyard as upgraded hotel options. Please ask your travel designer for that upgraded rate.
How does seating work?
On the Alaska Airlines flight between Anchorage & Southeast Alaska, you are able to select your seats in advance, including paid upgrade options to First Class & Premium Class. Seating on the train is assigned at check-in, and is in a 2 x 2 configuration; you will be assigned similar to airline style system - by car and then row/seat number. You can sometimes move around inside your car if you ask your car attendant.
What is the cancellation policy?
Once we've processed final final payment, any changes or cancellations within 24 hours are free of charge.

Each package's cancellation or change penalties will vary, and your travel designer will go over this with you once we have processed your booking.

. This package is non-refundable, however we are able to refund portions of the package based on how far in advance the cancellation has been requested. Airfare is non-refundable to the original form of payment, however if the traveler has an Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards account, we can apply the value of airfare towards their wallet. The rail & lodging component does not have cancellation fees until 46 days prior to departure, when the penalty is 50% and a $25 administrative fee.
What is the change policy?
Date changes are subject to difference in airfare and lodging availability up to time of departure; The Denali Rail & lodging portion is subject to a 50% penalty for any changes within 46 days of travel; and 100% for any changes within 30 days of travel.

Name changes are subject to administrative fees starting at $50 USD.
Do I need travel insurance?
We highly encourage all travelers to Alask to have travel insurance of some sorts. The vendors we use with this package are also covered by all travel insurance companies related to default & cancel-anytime type policies.

We are happy to quote you for a per-trip insurance plan, or our preferred Annual Travel plans. You can learn more by clicking anywhere in this window.
Can I bring my service animal?
Sadly no. The lodges and rail are not equipped for service animals.
Can you arrange transfers between my ship and the airport?
Yes, once we have your exact flight, hotel, and cruise details we can arrange for your transfers.
Can you arrange transfers between the rail depot & airport/hotel?
Yes, once we have your exact flight, hotel, and cruise details we can arrange for your transfers.
What kind of experience will we have on the train?
We offer the McKinley Explorer private train between Anchorage & Denali/Talkeetna; which has US-Built ULTRA-DOME passenger cars; the upper desk has reclining leather seats, tray tables, footrests, adjustable headrests, power powerts, 360* views, a car attendant that will provide narration & point out sites & wildlife; and a bartender with full bar / espresso / snacks (for purchase).

The 1st level of the ULTRA DOME car is the dining car, lounge area, restrooms and outdoor vestibules. There is an elevator for those that have limited mobility.

The train also offers a unique moving map - showing you the current location as you travel along Alaska's rails. You are welcome to walk between cars as each has its own unique layout and variable outdoor platform.
Are we on the Alaska Railroad?
Kinda...
No. This is a private train; however it runs along the same tracks as the Alaska Railroad and uses Alaska Raiload locomotives & conductors. However this train package is built with tourists in mind.

Some packages may offer the Alaska Railroad with Goldstar service as an alternative when we are not able to accommodate you on the private train.
How does the private train compare to the Alaska Railroad?
The Alaska Railroad offers 2 types of service - Adventure or Goldstar Class. Our private train has only one class that is similar to Goldstar, as everyone will have a seat in the "Ultra Dome" car and access to an outdoor area. Please note, that we do offer the Alaska Railroad Goldstar as an alternative when our private train is not available. GoldStar service is similar, however it includes your meal and 2 adult drinks. The cars are slightly different (seating), however service is similar.

The Alaska Railroad offers slightly different times and we prefer it for POST cruise offerings, not PRE-CRUISE due to the southbound Alaska Railroad's later arrival into Anchorage (which does not allow an easy connection to Juneau or Sitka).
Are food & drinks included on the train?
No** - you can purchase items individualy as you see fit. Northbound trains will serve breakfast and lunch; southbound trains will serve lunch. We will post the menus on our Facebook page normally by mid April.

** Exception are tours in which we use the Alaska Railroad GoldStar option, which will include 2 drinks and meal.
Are food & drinks included at the lodges?
We only offer the Music of Denali dinner show, with an Alaskan family-style BBQ, at the McKinley Chalet Resort. You are welcome to dine, on your own, at any of the lodge's many restaurants & cafes. There is also a Subway and other restaurants across the street in Denali.
Does this include any tours in Denali National Park?
Sort-of..
No, however the lodges run complimentary shuttles to/from the National Park Transportation Center regularly. There are free bus tours that go into the park and available as demand warrants (Savage River).
How does this package differ from other packages?
For starters, we have done this tour and stayed at all the hotels & lodges that ar a part of our program, you are getting a true Experienced Travel Agent and package from us!

Our package includes a guaranteed DOME CAR experience and hotels & lodges that we have personally used. We use the train ROUNDTRIP, no busses on the longer portions. The only bus you will use is between the lodges & rail depots. Our package also includes airfare to or from Juneau/Sitka that aligns with your cruise. For example, our private train arrives in Anchorage around 5:15PM at night, which then provides perfect timing to fly to Juneau or Sitka that evening instead of spending the night in Anchorage and traveling the next morning.

Alaska Travel Desk is available every step of the way to assist & make this trip easy for you; we are a full service travel agency based in Juneau and we've done this particular trip many, many times!

Alaska Travel Desk will donate $25 for each person booked to the United Way of Southeast Alaska.
Do you have rates for 2027?
No - sadly this package is only offered starting in November for the upcoming Alaska season.
