Avelo Airlines is a “super” low cost carrier, with flights linking smaller-used airports near larger communities with 2-5 flights a week. They operate a fleet of Boeing 737-700 and -800 aircraft but in a very minimalistic configuration and very few comfort options for customers. But, they let you skip the major busy airports/hubs and run on-time.
We give them 3 stars because our flights were on time, they got us between Wilmington, DE & Ft Lauderdale on time and just fine – and we got to avoid Philly AND other airine hubs. We were surprised that the airline doesn’t even offer ICE onboard – just very small portions of water. Its very much bare-bones flying. Avelo is cheap but we’d probably avoid them for flights over 3 hours. As long as you know what you are getting into, Avelo does the job.
As you could guess from the photos, the legroom is a bit tight on Avelo. Also there’s NO inflight service at all – no ice, no sodas, no food – not even for sale. Anything you want to consume on the flight you’ll need to bring on board. The FAs are there for your safety and 2 or 3 garbage runs. There’s also no inflight wifi, movies, no power ports, and no inflight reading material outside of the safety card.
For seating, you are assigned a seat at check-in if you did NOT pre-purchase one. The seat fees area fairly reasonable on Avelo compared to other airlines. While there’s no inflight entertainment, the seats look like they could fit a screen or two. But sadly, nothing will fit there, and no clamps or ways to hold a tablet in its place.
The exit row is nice, however the seat cushion is very small and there’s a recline ability (yay), however its a small knob between the seats and will protrude into your thigh. We did try sitting in a regular row and while it was tight, its bearable for a few hours, especially if it means overflying a hub & flying nonstop.
