MSC Food Enhancements

We’re back from a few trips on MSC – we sailed on the MSC Magnifica and MSC Seascape out of Miami and pleased to report that there’s been some very significant improvements on MSC’s America products.

MSC gets beat up over its food offerings. The European-based cruise line hasn’t really catered to Americans, so its food tends to be very euro-centric. Meaning, not very spicy or flavorful. This has been noted by many bloggers & travelers who lambast MSC’s main dining & buffet offerings.

We’re glad to report the line has done an almost 180 when it comes to food offerings. While there are still some weak points, we found the food very much on-par with the major cruiselines now and no longer cringeworthy. The specialty dining has eclipsed Norwegian’s offering; the buffet is open longer than you’ll find on Royal Caribbean & others, and its quite edible!

Sadly MSC still offers traditional dining – you can opt for early or late dining when booking and hope the times work out for you. On our recent Seascape sailing, we had an unfortunately early dining time of 5PM, and only made it to the main dining room two or three times on our cruise. The service was good and on point, the menus looked good (and food was good) – however there wasn’t much wiggle room to change that.

We did find the specialty dining was fantastic – Hola Tacos is one of my favorite go-tos, and one of my agents, Josh, loved the sushi bar.

Butchers Cut & Ocean Cay also made our list, and both were quite good.

We also loved the wine selection – and spent a lot of time in the Wine Bar and Wine Cellar, which I believe is a first on a major cruise line.

The sommoliers on MSC really do have an amazing & wide selection of wines to chose from – and with the Easy Plus package, you’ll be able to enjoy some very tasty wines with your dinners.

Overall, we’re very pleased with the direction MSC is headed with the enhancements to its Main Dining Room menus, specialty dining, and buffet choices. We didn’t see any ‘weird’ pizzas on this trip, there was no shortage of ketchup or Diet Coke, and we also didn’t have to wait in long lines to get drinks.

So while many of you will do your due diligence and research, we’d like to warn our travelers that YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok algorithms reward ‘negative’ reviews and posts, keep that in mind!
