DENALI ADVENTURE

Tour Highlights

Yes, you CAN experience Denali and Alaska’s Interior before or after your cruise!

This amazing add-on fits well before or after your Southeast Alaska adventure when cruising with Seabourn, The Boat Company, Uncruise, and Alaska Dream Cruises that begin or end in Juneau or Sitka.

Our package will take care of everything for you – including airfare to/from Juneau and Sitka and Anchorage, where the railtour to Denali will begin and hotels as needed.

You’ll explore Denali on the Alaska rails in the most luxurious Dome Cars on the line, onboard the McKinley Explorer Private Train.  This amazing upscale offering puts travelers in a specially-built railcar with large wrap-around windows with an open air platform to give you the full Alaska wilderness experience.   While onboard, you can sit back with a cup of coffee, espresso, or even a morning mimosa as Alaska’s pristine wilderness whisks by your window.   Thoughtful car attendants will point out wildlife and views along the journey, including the rare opportunity to see Denali from the train!    Guests will receive a welcome kit onboard the train with a full itinerary, room keys, and dinner show tickets in Denali.  Once in Denali (or Talkeetna), you’ll be shuttled directly to the lodge and straight to your room – no need to stop at the front desk. Your luggage should be awaiting you in your room.

There’s also plenty of time to take in a tour with Black Diamond Resort, be it a horse-carriage drawn ride or ATV trip with a truely delicious Alaskan bbq (don’t forget, the sun doesn’t go down in Denali in the summer!) – which you can now get for just $85 PER PERSON (normal price is $116) – and our travel partner also offers upgrades to ATV or Side-by-Side for just $45.

Guests will have at least one full day to explore Denali on their own, or we can offer a variety of amazing excursions and tours.

Also offered are a limited number of Extended Adventures which have an additional day in Denali or transfer to Talkeetna, where the McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge offers amazing views of Denali & the park!

Your return trip will be seamless as your bags get transferred for you and guests can just leave the resort & hop on the bus, to take the same trip back to Anchorage.   Once in Anchorage, we’ll help you with any transfers needed – the arrival time is perfect for the evening flight to Juneau or Sitka if you are wanting to do this package BEFORE your cruise.

FAQs

How do I book my Denali Trip?
Online ? Over the Phone? Email?
Please contact your Guest Services Representative at The Boat Company for pricing and options.
Exactly what ARE my options?
Make it easy!
We have two awesome Denali itineraries with The Boat Company:

-> a 3 day, 2 night Railtour to Denali
-> a 4 day, 2 night Railtour to Denali & 1 night in Talkeetna/Trapper Creek

Each offering includes 1st night hotel in Anchorage. Some packages include an additional night in Anchorage.

And depending on your CRUISE in Southeast Alaska, airfare between Anchorage and Southeast.
Are these trips offered other days of the week?
Yes, our partnership with The Boat Comapny gives you some flexiblity to extend your stay, at your expense, in Anchorage, Juneau, or Sitka. We are happy to extend our specially negotiated rates to you and your travel party.

For the RailTour to Denali, the dates are a bit more restricted due to availability.
What is included in these packages?
The trip offering includes roundtrip DOME CAR rail between Anchorage & Denali, luggage transfers, at least 2 nights upscale lodging in Denali or Talkeetna, 1 night moderate tourist class hotel in Anchorage, a dinner show in Denali, and airfare TO or FROM Juneau/Sitka and Anchorage.

Pre-Cruise tours require you to arrive in Anchorage a day before the train; and you will fly to Juneau or Sitka on the last day of the tour; we prefer to get you into Juneau/Sitka a day before your cruise starts in case of any possible delays or hiccups (thankfully, SHOULD there be a hiccup, there is a morning flight to Juneau & Sitka that will still allow you to get to the ship in time - but we do not recommend this as a normal part of your journey!).

Post-Cruise tours will begin the day you disembark, with a late afternoon flight to Anchorage, and the rail journey starting the next day (unless otherwise noted).
But what if I've already booked my flights for my cruise?
No worries, we can help!
That's OK! We can help you - we have friendly relations with both Alaska & Delta Air Lines and will get a price quote to move your flights to fit the package. Example: a precruise Denali Tour means we need to get you to ANCHORAGE to start the tour, and both Alaska & Delta have a large number of flights to/from there. If you book this as a POST cruise tour, we'll help move your flights from Juneau/Sitka to depart from Anchorage.
What if we want to have 3 or 4 occupants per room?
Contact us!
We are able to accommodate these requests for families, please let us know during the booking & confirmation process.
When will we know what lodges/hotels we are assigned?
Our Rail Program is pretty consistent in offering the Denali Princess Lodge & McKinley Chalet Lodge in Denali's "Glitter Gulch" - located just a mile from the main entrance to Denali National Park. Alternative lodges include the Grande Denali and Denali Bluffs, which are across the street from the Denali Princess Lodge. We will know the exact lodge up to 14 days prior to departure. Talkeetna stays are at the McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. Anchorage stays are at the Westmark or Aspen Suites hotel. We do offer upgrades to the Aloft & Courtyard in Anchorage.
What lodges do you use?
Our main hotels in Anchorage are: - Aspen Suites Hotel (new) - Westmark Anchorage - Aloft (available as an upgrade) - Courtyard by Marriott (available as an upgrade) Denali: - Denali Bluffs - Denali Grande - Denali Princess Lodge - McKinley Chalet Resort Talkeetna/Trapper Creek: - McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge
Can we request bedding or room types?
Yes - we can request 1 king or 2 queen/double beds; the only price change will be in Anchorage where we book "run of house" rooms. We will always request your preferred bedding layout and advise of any variations. In Denali, the room assignments are done by the lodges and you will be provided room keys on the train, which means you don't have to stand in line to check-in once in Denali. Most of our guests are provided with standard rooms, however some have received upgrades. We are trying our best to get pricing on upgrades rooms in Denali and will advise our guests if/when this is possible.

In Anchorage, we offer the Aloft, Aspen Suites (NEW), and Courtyard as upgraded hotel options. Please ask your travel designer for that upgraded rate.
How does seating work?
On the Alaska Airlines flight between Anchorage & Southeast Alaska, you are able to select your seats in advance, including paid upgrade options to First Class & Premium Class. Seating on the train is assigned at check-in, and is in a 2 x 2 configuration; you will be assigned similar to airline style system - by car and then row/seat number. You can sometimes move around inside your car if you ask your car attendant.
Do I need travel insurance?
We highly encourage all travelers to Alask to have travel insurance of some sorts. The vendors we use with this package are also covered by all travel insurance companies related to default & cancel-anytime type policies.

We are happy to quote you for a per-trip insurance plan, or our preferred Annual Travel plans. You can learn more by clicking anywhere in this window.
Can I bring my service animal?
Sadly no. The lodges and rail are not equipped for service animals.
What kind of experience will we have on the train?
We offer the McKinley Explorer private train between Anchorage & Denali/Talkeetna; which has US-Built ULTRA-DOME passenger cars; the upper desk has reclining leather seats, tray tables, footrests, adjustable headrests, power powerts, 360* views, a car attendant that will provide narration & point out sites & wildlife; and a bartender with full bar / espresso / snacks (for purchase).

The 1st level of the ULTRA DOME car is the dining car, lounge area, restrooms and outdoor vestibules. There is an elevator for those that have limited mobility.

The train also offers a unique moving map - showing you the current location as you travel along Alaska's rails. You are welcome to walk between cars as each has its own unique layout and variable outdoor platform.
Are we on the Alaska Railroad?
Kinda...
No. This is a private train; however it runs along the same tracks as the Alaska Railroad and uses Alaska Raiload locomotives & conductors. However this train package is built with tourists in mind.

Some packages may offer the Alaska Railroad with Goldstar service as an alternative when we are not able to accommodate you on the private train.
How does the private train compare to the Alaska Railroad?
The Alaska Railroad offers 2 types of service - Adventure or Goldstar Class. Our private train has only one class that is similar to Goldstar, as everyone will have a seat in the "Ultra Dome" car and access to an outdoor area. Please note, that we do offer the Alaska Railroad Goldstar as an alternative when our private train is not available. GoldStar service is similar, however it includes your meal and 2 adult drinks. The cars are slightly different (seating), however service is similar.

The Alaska Railroad offers slightly different times and we prefer it for POST cruise offerings, not PRE-CRUISE due to the southbound Alaska Railroad's later arrival into Anchorage (which does not allow an easy connection to Juneau or Sitka).
Are food & drinks included on the train?
No** - you can purchase items individualy as you see fit. Northbound trains will serve breakfast and lunch; southbound trains will serve lunch. We will post the menus on our Facebook page normally by mid April.

** Exception are tours in which we use the Alaska Railroad GoldStar option, which will include 2 drinks and meal.
Are food & drinks included at the lodges?
We only offer the Music of Denali dinner show, with an Alaskan family-style BBQ, at the McKinley Chalet Resort. You are welcome to dine, on your own, at any of the lodge's many restaurants & cafes. There is also a Subway and other restaurants across the street in Denali.
Does this include any tours in Denali National Park?
Sort-of..
No, however the lodges run complimentary shuttles to/from the National Park Transportation Center regularly. There are free bus tours that go into the park and available as demand warrants (Savage River).
